Hachiko : A Dog Tale

Hachiko was found by the Professor Hidesaburō Ueno at a train station. Hachiko was left behind at the train station when he was supposed to be delivered to some places.

Professor symphatizes the dog being all alone, so he brought him to the lost and found area, hoping that the owner will collect it later on. Unfortunately, it was very late, and the train station is closing soon. And all the professor did was to bring Hachiko back home and send him back tomorrow early in the morning.

In the one whole week, professor has been putting poster around the town, looking for the dog`s owner. As he was doing all these, he started to love the dog, he fed, slept and played Fetch with the dog. Well usually if you are playing fetch with a dog, the dog would literally fetch the ball and bring it back to the owner. Someway or somwhow, Hachiko would never do that, the professor has to fetch the ball himself each and everytime.

Sooner or later, the professor took Hachiko in as his pet and stop looking for the owner. They have had a true and loving relationship together. Every morning, Hachiko will walk with the professor to the train station and by the dawn, Hachiko would be waiting for the professor at the train station. This has became a rountine, till everyone around recognizes and familiar with the dog.

One day, Hachiko was barking non stop at the professor when he was about to go off to the station. For the first time, Hachiko wanted to play fetch with the professor. Professor was so proud that at last, his dog is playing fetch with him for all this while.

That evening itself, Hachiko was waiting for the professor at the station again, and he waited till the night falls. Unfortunately, the professor didnt turn up. The professor was suffered from a cerebral hemorrhage and died on that day itself.

The following days, Hachiko went back to the train station waited for the professor as usual. Days, months and years have passed, and Hachiko was still waiting for the professor at the same station, the same spot. His loyalty was attracted by a lot of people around, even the professor`s wife was impressed with the dog`s loyalty.

All the waiting and waiting has brought to a stop when the dog died with a terminal cancer and a filaria infection (worms). Still he went back to the same spot to wait for his master.

Review : I am overwhelmed by the loyalty of the dog, even a person`s loyalty cant put into the test in a period of 9 years. People change, leaves turns brown and fall but the loyalty of Hachiko never change. It was a serendipity for the meeting of the professor and the dog, it was a total chance. Putting aside the loyalty of a dog, I am impressed with the relationship between the professor and the dog. They have build up such a strong bond that is inseperable.
